NERIS V1 Data Exchange Compatible

NERIS reporting that catches the problems before NERIS does

NFIRS is gone. Every 2026 incident goes to NERIS, and NERIS asks for more detail than NFIRS ever did. ExigentOps asks the right questions for each call, checks the report with NERIS, and files it with one button.

How a report gets to NERIS

  1. The officer writes it

Incident type, times for every unit, actions taken, and the fire, EMS, hazmat or casualty questions that apply. Required fields change with the incident type and are explained in plain words.

  2. ExigentOps checks it with NERIS

“Check with NERIS” sends the report to NERIS’s own validation without filing it. Problems come back next to the field, like “Engine 301 cleared time is before its on-scene time.”

  3. The chief approves it

Only the chief can approve and file. Reports that need work go back to the officer with notes.

  4. ExigentOps files it

The report goes to NERIS through the official API and the NERIS ID is saved. A two-minute lock stops it from being filed twice.

  5. Corrections go to the same record

Need to fix something later? The chief reopens the report with a reason, and the correction is re-sent under the same NERIS ID with the history kept.

Deadlines handled for you

Set your department’s filing deadline once. ExigentOps shows what’s due soon and overdue on the dashboard and emails the chief a short list every morning there’s something to file.

Plain-English errors

No error codes to look up. Every problem NERIS finds is shown in words, next to the field to fix.

Field-by-field history

Every edit to a report is logged with who changed what, from what, to what. No one can edit the log — not even the chief.

NERIS questions

Is ExigentOps approved for NERIS?

ExigentOps passed the NERIS V1 data exchange compatibility check in October 2026 and carries the NERIS V1 Data Exchange Compatible seal. The seal means it meets the technical requirements for the NERIS API; NERIS does not endorse products.

Do we still need a NERIS account?

Yes. Your department is onboarded to NERIS by your chief and your state fire authority and gets a NERIS department ID (FD plus 8 digits). A NERIS administrator in your department then enrolls ExigentOps so it can file for you. Our setup guide walks through it.

What happens when NERIS rejects a report?

Before filing, ExigentOps sends the report to NERIS to be checked and shows any errors in plain English next to the field. If a filed report needs a correction, the chief reopens it with a reason and ExigentOps re-sends it under the same NERIS ID.

Does ExigentOps report to our state too?

ExigentOps files to NERIS, and many states now get their fire incident data from NERIS. A few states also require a separate state submission, which ExigentOps doesn't send today, so check with your State Fire Marshal.

Can we stop using ExigentOps for NERIS later?

Yes. Any NERIS administrator can remove the ExigentOps enrollment in NERIS, and you can download every record from ExigentOps at any time.
