Burn permits

Online burn permits with a one-click burn ban

Stop taking burn permit calls at home. Residents request permits on your department’s public page, and when conditions turn, one click suspends every active permit and emails every holder.

Your public burn permit page

Every department gets its own page to share on your website, Facebook page or township newsletter.

  • No login for residents. Name, phone, optional email, address, start date and what they’re burning.
  • Your rules, agreed to. Residents must tick a box agreeing to your burn rules — distance from buildings and roads, attended at all times, and anything else you set.
  • Look-up by permit number and phone, so residents can check their status without calling you.
  • Ban notice front and center whenever a burn ban is in effect, with your reason.
  • Spam protection built in, with limits per phone number and per department.

The burn ban, handled in one click

  1. Call the ban

Enter a reason — red flag warning, drought, county order — and click once.

  2. Every active permit is suspended

Burn and agricultural burn permits are suspended immediately. New approvals are held while the ban is on.

  3. Every holder is told

Each permit holder with an email on file gets a notice. Your public page shows the ban to anyone who checks.

  4. Lift it the same way

One click restores the permits that were suspended and emails the holders that they can burn again.

For the office, too

Automatic numbering

Permits are numbered by type and year — BP for burn, FW for fireworks, TT for tents, SE for special events, AB for agricultural burns.

Phone-in permits

Officers enter permits taken over the phone, and burn permits get your rules attached as conditions automatically.

Status worked out for you

Pending, approved, active, expired, suspended, denied or revoked — from the dates and your decisions, with a reason required to deny or revoke.

Burn permit questions

Do residents need an account to request a burn permit?

No. Your department gets a public burn permit page. Residents fill in their name, phone, address, start date and what they’re burning, agree to your burn rules, and submit. They can look their permit up later with the permit number and their phone number.

What happens when we call a burn ban?

One click suspends every active burn and agricultural burn permit and emails each holder that has an email on file. While the ban is on, the public page shows a ban notice, and any new approval is held as suspended. Lifting the ban restores the permits and emails the holders again.

Can permits be approved automatically?

Yes, if you choose. You can auto-approve online requests or review each one, and set how many days a permit lasts.

What other permits can we issue?

Fireworks displays, tents and temporary structures, special events, agricultural burns and others, each numbered automatically by type and year.
